The Home Sprint

Written on February 18th, 2010 by adminno shouts

The month is disappearing fast and this last third of the month is the sprint zone – the new letter coming up this week will contain a tonne of useful writing stimuli. So remember to sign up for it if you haven’t already!

Well done for all of those who have made it this far, and remember – keep writing :)

Those who have fallen by the wayside – hey, if you got one poem out of this month then that’s worth a victory dance all on its own :)

Good luck all

Half Way There

Written on February 14th, 2010 by adminno shouts

It is the end of the second week and though you may not want to hear this, that means you are half way through this month of poetry mayhem!

Many have already finished – and if that is the case then fantastic and well done! But don’t sit back on those laurels, why not aim for a doubled target? That’s right, we are suggesting you write another 28 poems – just keep doing a bit of writing every day until the end of the month. Or if you feel confident enough you could start editing. We here at WoPoWriMo prefer to leave the poems to lay fallow for a while, meaning we like to ignore them for a month or so before looking at them again. This gives us time to forget what we meant and see instead what we have actually written!

And for those of you who are behind? Do not worry – just keep trying every day – if you are finding it hard then don’t try to catch up, just try for ‘damage minimization’ and do a poem a day from now on! Who knows, you may get into the swing of things and do a poetic sprint towards the end!

Of course today’s poem should be easy enough to manage – love it or hate it, it is Valentines Day! So write a romantic love poem or an unromantic hate poem or an unromantic love poem or a romantic hate poem.

Good luck from team WoPo!

One Week Down!

Written on February 8th, 2010 by adminno shouts

Well there is one week down and hopefully you have started amassing poems! What? “No”?

Well go back and do the exercises, even if you run them all as response writing exercises and forget the poem bit – you may find that when you look back at them something poetic will jump out!

Fresh people are joining the challenge of WoPoWriMo and poems are being put on WoPoWriMo Poems, we have participents in four continents and are covering a wide range of ages and styles.

Go get writing those poems!

And for those feeling they are producing too much and it’s all drivel – keep writing, some of it can be edited into shape. As for the rest…. well, you obviously need to get it out of your system.

Beware The Apathy Bunnies

Written on February 2nd, 2010 by adminno shouts

It is day two and you may well have written one, two, three or sixteen poems yesterday, but don’t stop there! Keep going or you risk an attack of the Apathy Bunnies who lurk in the literary undergrowth waiting to pounce the unwary writer. You will suddenly get to day 25 and realise you still only have those poems from the first day – so keep going!

And if you have not already written a single poem you may already have been struck by the apathy bunnies, in which case you must fend them off now! A large mug of coffee or beverage of choice, pen and paper and a bolted door are a good cure.

Now go and write!
